Garbage & Recycle
Garbage:
Curbside garbage pick up occurs every Monday year round.
For the months of July and August, garbage is picked up on Mondays and Thursdays.
The annual fee is for 104 bags, which averages 2 bags per week. Above that, the cost is $2.00 per bag.
Garbage billing is mailed in mid-April and payment of $175 is due May 1st.
All garbage must be in GARBAGE bags, no heavier than 30lbs., and closed securely.
Small grocery bags will be counted per bag if placed separately at the curb.
Garbage cans containing multiple small bags should be lined with a large garbage bag and tied.
Bags need to be placed at the curb or designated site before 7AM, or they will not be picked up.
If left at the curb the night before, bags must be placed in garbage cans with locked tight lids (please use bungee cords if yours don't have locking lids).
Garbage collectors are not responsible for clean up of scattered garbage.
When more than one family or business is using a pick up site, please place a name tag or sticker on the bags.
This helps prevent illegal dumping and proper count of bags for each home or business owner.
Do not place bags or cans curbside during a snowstorm. The garbage collectors also plow the streets and cannot do both at the same time.
If a winter storm prohibits garbage pick up, please wait to put your garbage out after the streets have been cleared or on the next working week day.
If you use white bags, be sure they are visible if placed on the snow bank, otherwise they may be plowed under or not picked up.
If you have a curbside garbage box, be sure to keep it clear of snow and ice to insure pick up.
Hang a bright colored ribbon or other obvious marker from the box to notify the garbage collectors to stop, otherwise they will not stop to check it.
Recycle:
You may drop off your recyclables at the borough garage on Carl Rider Road on week days from 6AM-2PM or when the gate is open.
(GPS location: N41.40655 W076.58797)
Accepting glass, aluminum, tin, newspapers, magazines, junk mail, and cardboard.
Recycling must be rinsed and sorted.
There is no curb side recycling at this time.
